SMOG and science - Vera
Problems in the future: SMOG
The other day I felt sad, and I did what I usually do when I’m sad, which is making myself more sad with bad news, climate or war-related anxiety etc. This day though, I tripped over a few pictures online that really made an impact on me. They all speak about the future, in the saddest of ways. Below this text you can see some of the pictures.

If these pictures don’t seem a bit depressing to you, I don’t know what to think. The picture of the family is from a commercial for indoor oxygen masks. Imagine going to school and meeting people in masks. Maybe some of the kids have them in happy colours or with their favorite superheroes on them. Imagine having the regular fredagsmys with the family, although with masks on. Isn’t this a seriously creepy thought? In the future it’s very likely that this will be our everyday life, and nothing weird at all. The problems with smog are already huge, as you can see in the second picture, with the bike. And if we keep on driving and flying across the world as we do now, We might all have to buy buckets of mountain air, like they already do in china. Imagine having to buy fresh air in the same way you buy water today. Or maybe we have to build these huge air bubbles so that you finally can breathe normally when you get home. Is there really nothing we can do about this tragical problems?

Luckily, there is! One of the most important jobs right now is looking for solutions for these huge problems. The need for passionate scientists is bigger than ever. There are many problems to solve, and many ideas to try. One invention that was made particularly against the smog, is the “smog free tower” that has been tried and successfully used in a few huge cities. The tower is 7 meters tall, and it has a technology made for collecting the smog. Its inventor is called Daan Roosegaarde. This is a picture of the tower from Beijing’s airport:📷
I have faith in the future, but the climate is worrying me a lot and I hope that there will be passionate scientists, maybe in this futureyezing project who can help save the world.
